Is a missed call text back worth it for a tradie?
The free version is worth it, and it is already in your phone. Your phone can send a saved text when you decline a call you cannot take, and you can write the replies yourself. A paid tool that texts every missed call on its own is worth pricing only once the free version shows how many calls you are missing.
A caller who gets no answer often hangs up and rings the next name in the search results. So when you are under a house or up a ladder, the question is not whether you can answer. It is whether the caller hears from you before they move on.
A text back does that. It tells them you saw the call, asks what they need and the suburb, and says roughly when you will ring.
Start with the free version, because it is already in your pocket. On an iPhone, go to Settings, then Apps, then Phone, then Respond with Text, and replace the default replies with your own. On most Android phones, open the Phone app, tap the three dots, then Settings, then Quick responses. When a call comes in that you cannot take, tap Message and pick the reply.
Write three replies. One for when you are on a job. One for when it might be urgent for them, asking them to text the word urgent and what is happening, so you know to stop and ring. One for after hours, saying when you start tomorrow and what counts as an emergency. Then change your voicemail greeting to say that a text gets a faster answer than a message.
Do the same on every work phone in the business. It is a short job, and you do it once.
The free version has one limit: it only works when you see the phone ring. A call you never noticed still goes unanswered. That is where the paid tools come in, the ones that text every missed call automatically or answer with an AI voice. Before you pay for one, use the free version for a while and keep a tally of the calls you decline. If the tally is small, you have your answer. If it is large, you now know what a paid tool has to beat, and you can ask any seller what month two costs.
Some callers would rather talk to a person, and that is worth knowing. A text that sounds like you, from your own number, is still you.
A Three Fixes report looks at how calls reach you today and writes the steps and the words to give a chatbot for the three replies and the voicemail greeting, ready to type into the phone you already have.
