Am I too small or not technical enough for AI to help?
If you can send a text message, you can run a well-built tool, because you instruct it in plain English. Small is not the barrier either: a small business loses more per missed call, not less.
The technical work belongs to whoever builds it, and it should stay with them. The test is simple: if the person selling it cannot explain what it does without jargon, they will not be able to make it simple for you to use either. You should never need to learn their tools to get your own answers out.
Being small also does not mean AI is not worth it. A one or two person business feels a missed call or a late invoice more, not less, because there is nobody else to catch it. The question is not whether your business is big enough, it is whether the specific thing costing you time is one AI can actually help with.
Keep what already works, and be wary of anyone who tells you otherwise. Good AI work plugs into what you already use rather than asking you to adopt yet another login, which matters most for a small business where every extra system you have to check each morning is a real cost.
If you are worried about running it day to day, the honest test is who has to keep it going. A well-built tool needs almost nothing from you once it is set up, the same way a good employee does not need instructions repeated every morning. If it needs constant attention, that is a setup problem, not a sign you are the wrong owner for it.
The businesses that get stuck are usually the ones who bought something they were told to trust rather than something they were shown working. Ask to see it operate on a business roughly your size before deciding whether it fits yours.
